Job summary

ACCIONA, a global leader in regenerative infrastructure, seeks a Field Safety Manager for Louisiana projects. You will liaise with segment managers, supervise field safety personnel, conduct inspections, and develop safety plans to minimize incidents.

The role requires 10+ years in safety on heavy civil construction, OSHA/ANSI/NFPA/EPA/DOT familiarity, OSHA-500 and CSP certifications, and a valid driver’s license. English and Spanish preferred; relocation support available.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in safety-related field with 10+ years of safety experience on heavy civil construction projects.
  • Alternative: high school diploma with 12+ years of direct safety experience in heavy civil construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with segment managers and field engineers on safety matters.
  • Conduct daily field inspections and manage PPE allocation.
  • Coach and mentor field supervisors and safety personnel.
  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and enforce site safety plans and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Serve as primary safety contact on-site and coordinate with subcontractors.

The Field Safety Manager is committed to supporting Louisiana Bridge Builders by providing point of contact (POC) safety support for the field construction team.

Job Description
  1. Liaison with segment managers and field engineering personnel on safety matters, evaluate work plans, & review critical lift plans.
  2. Perform daily field inspections and manage allocation of PPE.
  3. Coach and mentor field supervisors and other field safety personnel.
  4. Identify and measure key performance indicators and recommend corrective action measures.
  5. Facilitate incident investigations, apply lessons learned and industry best safety practices.
  6. Proactively contribute to building a safety culture and minimizing incidents by maintaining compliance with company policies and procedures.
  7. Develop, implement, and enforce site‑specific safety plans and procedures.
  8. Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards.
  9. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., OSHA standards).
  10. Lead job hazard analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and toolbox talks.
  11. Investigate incidents, near misses, and injuries; compile reports and recommend corrective actions.
  12. Maintain all required safety documentation and records.
  13. Collaborate with project management and field supervisors to promote a safety‑first culture.
  14. Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure adherence to safety standards.
  15. Act as the primary point of contact for all safety‑related issues on‑site.
  16. Hire, motivate, and lead a high‑performing team through coaching, top‑tier talent retention, and directed recruiting efforts.
  17. Supervise team, including training, providing work direction, problem‑solving assistance, reviewing performance, recommending salary increases, promotions, transfers, demotions, and terminations.
  18. Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Skills and Competencies

At a minimum, the Field Safety Manager must have an associate’s degree in safety management, environmental science, occupational health, or related field of study, along with 10+ years of direct safety experience in heavy civil construction projects which includes 5+ years of experience in heavy highway and bridge mega projects OR a high school diploma, or equivalent, along with 12+ years of direct safety experience in heavy civil construction projects which includes 5+ years of experience in heavy highway and bridge mega projects. The ideal candidate must also have proven, basic knowledge and experience of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, possess or the ability to obtain the OSHA‑500 Certification & Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification, and must possess a valid and current driver’s license. Professional proficiency in English and Spanish (Preferred).
