ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP is hiring a Field Safety Manager to join our Corporate Environmental Health and Safety Team at our Jesse Brown VA Hospital project located in Chicago, Illinois. This position is onsite.

The Field Safety Manager directs and completes onsite safety support for ESG’s projects through duties that include, but are not limited to: site safety planning and implementation, document review and processing, site safety management system deployment, written and verbal safety communications, and general clerical skills. The individual will have constant exposure to and influence over subcontractors and ESG Project Management staff. This position is a self-starting leader who will make a positive safety culture impact by daily contacts with the construction management and subcontractor teams. This position will maintain relationships and performance status of subcontractor teams to ensure the ESG project team is maintaining a compliant worksite.

The essential functions of the position include:

  • Serve as an occupational safety resource to ESG construction project teams. Some responsibilities include:
    • Ensuring that all the projects’ activities are conducted with all applicable OSHA requirements and regulations
    • Maintaining and ensuring subcontractor performance expectations on projects
    • Assisting in preparing and deploying Accident Prevention Plans (APP) and safety planning for project development including participating in risk reviews and kick-off meetings
    • Performing site inspections, mishap and near miss investigations, site orientations, development of Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) and APPs and incident investigations with Root Cause Analysis
    • Serving as “Competent and/or Qualified Person” for activities including, but not necessarily limited to; fall protection, confined space entry, scaffolds, hot work, lockout/tag out, PPE
    • Providing back up support to ESG construction teams when other ESG construction management team members are not present on the project
    • Compiling and maintaining audit reviews and follow-ups for completion
    • Providing administrative assistance to a project for development of EHS protocols and site safety plans
    • Conducting and documenting Safety Orientations and weekly Safety meetings
    • Correcting any safety deficiencies or unsafe acts

Your background includes:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least five years’ experience supervising construction and general industry EHS programs or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated in depth knowledge and application of OSHA regulations pertaining to construction and general industry safety programs
  • Hands on experience executing safety practices including but not limited to lock out/tag out, confined space entry, hot work permits, line opening, fall prevention/protection
  • Instructor-signed OSHA 30-hour Construction Industry or General Industry training card

A bonus to have:

  • Occupational Safety Degree
  • EM-385-1-1 requirement or regulation experience
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
