Job summary

SLSCO Ltd. Federal Services Division seeks a Field Safety Specialist for a federal design-build infrastructure project in the Laredo, Texas area.

The role supports the SSHO and field leadership by identifying hazards, assisting with inspections and training, and tracking corrective actions while maintaining safety records on site. This on-site position requires OSHA 30-Hour and EM 385-1-1 knowledge, strong communication with crews, and the ability to travel across active work areas.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of construction field safety experience; heavy civil or infrastructure experience preferred.
• Experience supporting safety on federal construction projects; SSHO designation not required.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety training required; EM 385-1-1 training preferred.
• Knowledge of EM 385-1-1 and OSHA construction requirements with hazard recognition ability.
• Experience with AHAs, inspections, corrective-action tracking and common hazards.
• Heavy-civil, roadway, border infrastructure, or large linear construction experience preferred.
• Ability to work full-time onsite and travel throughout active work areas.
• English proficiency; US citizenship if required by contract; pass background checks and have a valid driver's license.
• MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Support implementation of safety plans and project requirements under SSHO direction.
• Maintain a regular presence in active work areas and report hazards promptly.
• Participate in pre-work, coordination, and safety meetings; communicate upcoming hazards.
• Observe work for conformance with AHAs and procedures; document findings and follow up.
• Assist with site orientations, toolbox talks, and training records; deliver training when needed.
• Raise compliance concerns to SSHO and supervisors; track corrective actions and closures.
• Enter observations into tracking system and verify closure with SSHO.
• Conduct routine field inspections and pause activities for imminent dangers.
• Assist in preparing or reviewing AHAs and confirming crews understand controls.
• Maintain safety files, postings, and reference materials; coordinate with safety personnel.
