Job summary

National Grid is hiring a Field Safety Specialist to improve safety culture and ensure regulatory and company compliance across field operations in Buffalo, NY. This field-based role requires daily travel to worksites and focuses on electric operations as well as support to Facilities and Fleet groups.

The successful candidate will serve as a trusted safety advisor, promoting safe work practices, identifying risks, and driving continuous improvement within the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, engineering, math sciences, psychology, or closely related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of related safety experience with 90% safety responsibilities.
• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910 and 1926) and NFPA/ANSI standards.

Responsibilities

• Serve as safety expert guiding operations during planning, pre-job reviews, site walks, execution, and post-project evaluations.
• Lead or support investigations for incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and tracking corrective actions.
• Evaluate safety performance trends and develop injury and incident prevention strategies.
• Promote a safety culture with accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement across field operations.
• Develop and deliver risk management materials for hazardous tasks to contractor and field crews.
