Planted Solar in Oakland, CA is seeking a Field Robotics Engineer to ensure reliability and uptime of robotic installation machines at utility-scale solar projects. You will lead data collection in the field, diagnose issues, and support on-site operations such as operator training and machine logistics.

This role bridges R&D and project operations, enhancing real-world robotic performance through testing and validation, while coordinating with engineering teams to deliver new features.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of field robotics or field experience.
• Willingness to travel up to 75% with weeklong stays.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Ability to operate or learn to operate construction equipment.
• Located in the SF Bay Area or willing to relocate to be in-person at project sites up to 5 days per week.

Responsibilities

• Ensure reliability and uptime of deployed robotic systems by monitoring field performance and fixing issues on-site.
• Test and validate the robot fleet; collect performance data and inform operation plans.
• Operate, maintain, and enhance field testing tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to deliver updates improving robot performance and project installation.
• Provide clear training and materials to external partners for safe use of machines.
• Build detailed project schedules reflecting field performance and milestones.
• Serve as a representative of the company when engaging with external partners and customers.
