Job summary

Planted Solar is seeking a Field Robotics Engineer to ensure uptime of robotic installation machines at utility-scale solar projects. You will lead field data collection, diagnose issues, and support onsite operations including training and logistics.

This role bridges R&D and project operations for real-world robot performance improvements. We offer a challenging startup environment with autonomy, cross-functional collaboration, and stock options.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of field experience
• Willing to travel up to 75% of the time
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills to diagnose complex issues
• Adaptability to fast-changing conditions and evolving project requirements
• Calm, focused, and effective under pressure in ambiguous situations
• Independence in the field with alertness to escalate when needed
• Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
• Experience with construction equipment (skid steers, telehandlers, excavators) or willingness to learn
• Desire to work in a fast-paced startup environment
• Located in SF Bay Area or able to relocate, on-site up to 5 days/week

Responsibilities

• Ensure reliability and uptime of deployed robotic systems in the field
• Test and validate the robot fleet; capture performance data for improvements
• Operate, maintain, and enhance field testing tools and diagnostic equipment
• Collaborate with engineering teams to deliver updates and improve performance
• Maintain up-to-date technical documentation and training procedures
• Provide clear, structured training to external partners on equipment use
• Build project schedules reflecting field performance and milestones
• Represent the company with external partners and customers
