Job summary

Beck’s Hybrids in Salina, KS is seeking a Research Associate to support field testing and mini-strip trials. You will coordinate plots with cooperators, prepare seed, plant strips, collect agronomic data, and help maintain plots and equipment. Overnight travel may be required, and a valid CDL/driver’s license is preferred.

The role involves assisting with data reporting for product development, warehousing duties, and supervision of interns as needed, within Beck’s Hybrids’ operations.

Qualifications

• Minimum of high school diploma or GED; advanced degree preferred.
• CDL and pesticide license or ability to obtain.
• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong agronomic and mechanical skills.
• Ability to work independently and as a team member.
• Ability to use PC and various software packages.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate plot locations and logistics with plot cooperators.
• Measuring and setting flags; weed control and fertility coordination.
• Seed preparation for mini-strip and replicated testing.
• Planting of mini-strip and replicated plots; transport equipment.
• Data collection: stand counts, vigor, plot ratings, disease notes.
• Plot maintenance and fertilizer/herbicide applications.
• Plot harvest and data reporting for product development staff.
• Warehousing: inventory, staging, loading/unloading, seed deliveries.
• Aid in isolated corn block, nursery work; supervise staff when needed.
• Work across Beck’s operations as directed by Testing Site Lead.
