Job summary

Penn State University is seeking a hands-on agronomy assistant to prepare corn seeds for machine planting, assist in planting, crop management, and adherence to agronomic practices. You will collect plant data from seed germination to maturity, and collect and bring samples to the lab for PCR-based genotyping, as well as perform seed collection, drying, storage and cataloguing.

This position emphasizes safe driving and operation of university vehicles as needed and supports the agronomy farm

Responsibilities

• Prepare corn seeds for machine planting at the agronomy farm.
• Assist in planting, corn crop management, and follow agronomic practices.
• Collect various plant data starting from seed germination to maturity.
• Collect and bring samples to the lab for PCR based genotyping.
• Perform crosses and selves of selected plants.
• Harvest and send samples for analysis.
• Perform seed collection, drying, storage, and cataloguing.
