Job summary

The Personnel Board of Jefferson County Alabama is seeking an Appraisal Assistant to support Real Property Appraisers by measuring properties and gathering data for accurate valuations. Fieldwork is common, with required outdoor activity and occasional office tasks.

You will assist in inspections, record reviews, and diagram creation to aid in property valuations, with a clear pathway for promotion within the Real Property Appraisal series.

Qualifications

• Driver’s license required.
• Experience providing customer service (e.g., information, policy explanations, dealing with challenging customers).
• Experience with basic construction materials (brick, wood, concrete).
• Ability to pass the Alabama Manual course and IAAO 101 Fundamentals within two years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Inspect real properties and related documentation to evaluate construction and features.
• Take property measurements using tape measure and miter gauge for appraisal data.
• Examine public records to gather tax information for properties under jurisdiction.
• Gather specifications from building plans to evaluate characteristics and design.
• Perform administrative duties to maintain efficient departmental operations.
• Assist in valuations/assessments to determine property values.
• Draw land and improvement diagrams to support appraisal reports.
• Monitor trends that may affect real property prices to provide accurate estimates.
