Job summary

Insight Global is seeking an experienced FPGA Engineer in Mason, OH to work on-site on a 9/80 schedule. The role focuses on designing, implementing, and validating VHDL components for cutting-edge systems, with significant hardware integration responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on FPGA and VHDL experience, be able to work across hardware and software domains, and participate in peer reviews and design reviews.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Electrical and Computer Engineering with at least four years of related experience; or an associate degree in one of those disciplines with at least eight years of related experience.
  • At least four years of direct, hands-on FPGA and VHDL design experience.
  • Ability to independently develop the VHDL logic that goes inside an FPGA, rather than only writing software that interfaces with an FPGA or verifying another engineer’s design.

Responsibilities

  • This FPGA Engineer will work on site on a 9-80 schedule and participate in FPGA developments including requirements, system design, detailed design, and hardware integration on cutting-edge systems for new product development.
  • The portfolio includes ultra-high speed, ultra-large format infrared cameras, launch vehicle avionics, and orbital vehicle communications.
  • Focus on product development for design, implementation, verification, and integration of VHDL components and participate in VHDL peer reviews.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers and analyze component synthesis, timing, and clock domain crossings.
  • Deliverables include internal design reviews, project management and technical estimating.
  • Broader work includes coding, simulation, documentation, and lifecycle iteration with 75% coding/design and 25% lab work.

Job description

  • Experience analyzing synthesis results, timing, timing closure, and clock domain crossings.
  • Experience working with standard streaming and memory-mapped interfaces such as Avalon or AMBA.
  • Experience with memory and digital interfaces, including DDR and related digital hardware architectures.
  • Ability to work across both FPGA logic development and hardware integration. The ideal profile will have approximately 60% hardware and 40% software/logic development.
  • Ability to clearly explain personal ownership of a design, including the VHDL written, design complexity, specific technical contributions, and work completed versus work owned by teammates.
  • Ability to work on-site in Mason, Ohio, on a 9/80 schedule, particularly during hardware integration and lab-testing phases.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
  • Experience with MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Experience with GigE, 10GigE, or GigE Vision interfaces.
  • Experience with launch vehicle avionics, orbital vehicle communications, infrared imaging systems, aerospace electronics, or defense-related product development.
  • Experience across both new product development and updates to existing FPGA-based products.
  • Experience with digital signal processing implemented within an FPGA.
