Job summary

The Barre Probation office in Vermont seeks a Probation and Parole Officer to supervise offenders in both community and field settings. You will coordinate program activities and maintain case records while engaging with families, law enforcement, courts, and community partners.

Responsibilities include direct supervision, administering risk instruments, and making recommendations for custody classification, pre-sentence, and pre-parole investigations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree, or higher, in criminal justice, or a closely related field.
• OR
• High school diploma or equivalent or higher AND three (3) years or more experience in human services casework OR related fields, such as mental health/addiction counseling, residential treatment, juvenile justice, direct service legal work, emergency services, corrections, law enforcement, military service, or similar roles.
• Note: Possession of a valid driver's license is required, and a criminal background check will be performed prior to hire.
• Conviction History Requirements: Candidates who have any felony conviction record or who, within the past five (5) years, have been placed under supervision or sanctioned for a misdemeanor conviction must receive a waiver from the Commissioner of Corrections in order to be considered for employment.
• Special Requirements: Note: Possession of a valid driver's license is required, and a criminal background check will be performed prior to hire. Certain convictions can be disqualifying.

Responsibilities

• Coordinating program activities and providing direct supervision, including contact with offender families, supports, law enforcement, Courts, and community partners.
• Administer risk instruments and make recommendations for custody classification, pre-sentence, and pre-parole investigations.
• Maintain records and prepare reports as directed.
• Field travel and appearances at courts or parole board may be required.
