Overview and Responsibilities

Saint Mary’s University is seeking a Field Placement Director in the MS Clinical Psychology Program who is eager to contribute to Saint Mary’s Lasallian Catholic mission of awakening, nurturing, and empowering learners to ethical lives of service and leadership. Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000

Job Summary

Reporting to the Program Director for the Master’s of Science in Clinical Psychology, based in the Catholic Christian Meta Model of the Human Person, the Field Education Director is responsible for the overall administration of field education, teaching courses, and contributing to program development activities and university service. The Field Education Director maintains the fidelity of the field education by providing guidance, supervision, coordination, and evaluation of its processes. This position is responsible for ensuring that the field education meets all APA accreditation standards, relevant state licensure laws for professional practice, and is responsible for working with students and field sites nationwide. This position will be essential in establishing and maintaining the field education component of the Master’s in Clinical Psychology program and will help the university attain accreditation from the American Psychological Association.

Location: Remote (with occasional on-ground residencies)

The ideal candidate must:

  • Be able to work effectively within a team structure to carry out the mission of the University.
  • Have a demonstrated basic proficiency and interest in educational technology such as Canvas.
  • Have excellent communication, organizational, and multi-tasking skills with proven ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Have an understanding of online education and how to effectively engage students to maximize their online learning experience.
  • Have professional decorum and ethical decision-making.
  • Have a demonstrated commitment to the profession and education of clinical psychology, accreditation standards, and to serving marginalized populations.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Coordinate practicum program development; maintain records, develop a handbook of practicum policies and procedures, recommend policy and procedure changes.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with practicum site supervisors, practicum instructors, other clinical faculty and students.
  • Initiate, nurture, and grow relationships with training sites throughout the country consistent with the program's mission and aims.
  • Assist students in obtaining appropriate practicum placements via training workshops, individual advising and site development.
  • Coordinate practicum seminars.
  • Develop and supervise the practicum seminar instructors.
  • Network with educators and practitioners to assure the relevance of practicum to practice.
  • Maintain and update database of state licensure laws about the educational requirements for professional practice based on program’s curriculum and student advising needs.
  • Ability to integrate Catholic faith and psychological science in a meaningful, coherent manner within a clinical psychology program.
  • Experience with online education platforms and technology, with an ability to innovate and adapt to new educational tools as well as capacity to enhance student engagement and community through distance learning.

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Maintain active course load of 12 credits in an academic year (fall, spring, summer).
  • Develop and supervise the practicum and internship field placement courses.
  • Work with faculty and adjunct instructors on the integration of the Catholic Christian Meta Model of the Person into all clinical supervision courses.

University Responsibilities:

  • Participate in university service such as committees, faculty development, and accreditation, and commencements.
  • Attend program faculty meetings, serve on program committees, and contribute to program development activities such as accreditation.
  • Assist in student recruitment and admissions events and activities.

Physical Demands:

Light Work: Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities.
