Our construction equipment group is seeking a full-time Field Paver Technician 2 to work on pavers at any of the following MI branches: Jackson, Byron Center, New Hudson, Burton, or Traverse City. This is a union position and will be part of Local 324.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Complete inspections
  • Implementation of optional accessories
  • Upkeep of the service truck
  • Responsible for the inventory of onboard parts
  • Proper setup and operation of tractor and screed
  • Removal and installation of parts
  • Maintenance
  • Advanced diagnosis and troubleshooting
  • Testing
  • General repairs on all types of equipment Alta represents
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Incorporate Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activities

Consistent, regular, and reliable attendance including being ready for work at the designated start time.

Qualifications:

  • Previous paver, mill setup, operation, and repair experience is required
  • Five or more years of heavy equipment repair and/or mobile crane repair experience is required
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of engine, power train, hydraulics, and electrical systems
  • Own tools required
  • A positive attitude and high energy level
  • Clean driving record
  • Familiarity with computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook and Volvo VCADS
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic operations with numbers, money, weight, volume, and distance
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to follow instructions and solve problems involving multiple variables
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
  • Regularly stand, walk, use hands, reach; frequently talk/hear, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; occasionally sit
  • Lift up to 25 pounds regularly; 26-50 pounds frequently; over 50 pounds occasionally
  • Work near moving mechanical parts; exposed to fumes, outdoor weather; occasionally wet/humid conditions, electrical shock risk, vibration
