Job summary

Scorpion Therapeutics is seeking a Field Patient Access Director to lead a field-based access organization and drive payer readiness for launches in the Phoenix area.

The role requires 10+ years in pharma/biotech with strong analytical and communication skills, deep reimbursement knowledge, and strict adherence to patient privacy and access regulations. You will collaborate across Market Access, Sales, and external vendors to optimize patient access across geographies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 10+ years' pharma/biotech/healthcare field leadership.
  • Experience supporting rare disease and/or specialty products.
  • Deep understanding of reimbursement pathways and specialty pharmacy.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of laws governing patient information protection.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop field access organization across geographies.
  • Set performance expectations, KPIs, and provide development feedback.
  • Partner with Commercial Training & Development for onboarding and continuous learning.
  • Lead change management to scale field access operations.
  • Build and maintain a talent pipeline via succession planning and development.
  • Own field access readiness and execution for launches.
  • Serve as SME on reimbursement, coverage, and third-party services.
  • Analyze payer trends to anticipate barriers and guide mitigation.
  • Collaborate with Market Access, Sales, Patient Support and vendors.
  • Support healthcare providers with compliant education.
  • Identify process improvements and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor performance data and translate insights into actions.
  • Promote best-practice sharing.

Field Patient Access Director
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and develop a field-based patient access organization (PALs and FRMs) across assigned geographies.
  • Set performance expectations, KPIs, and MBOs; monitor progress and provide feedback and professional development.
  • Partner with Commercial Training & Development to design onboarding and continuous learning.
  • Lead change management to scale/evolve field patient access operations.
  • Build and maintain a talent pipeline via succession planning, coaching, and proactive development.
Patient Access & Reimbursement Strategy
  • Own field patient access readiness and execution for new product/indication launches.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on reimbursement, coverage, specialty pharmacy, and third-party services.
  • Analyze payer/reimbursement/access trends to anticipate barriers and guide mitigation.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Collaborate with Market Access, Sales, Patient Support, Commercial Operations, and external vendors.
  • Partner with Sales leadership on account planning and local access strategy.
  • Support healthcare providers and office staff through compliant education.
Operational Excellence & Compliance
  • Identify process-improvement opportunities and lead initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Ensure field activities comply with laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Partner with Patient Safety, Pharmacovigilance, and Quality for reporting.
Reporting & Performance Management
  • Monitor activity, performance data, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Translate field insights into actionable recommendations; promote best-practice sharing.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 10+ years' relevant experience in pharma/biotech/healthcare.
  • Progressive field leadership experience.
  • Experience supporting rare disease and/or specialty products.
  • Deep understanding of reimbursement pathways and specialty pharmacy.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of compliance, patient confidentiality, and access requirements.
  • Knowledge of laws governing protection of patient identifying information.

$220,000–$245,000 salary range; additional compensation may include company car, allowance, and bonus eligibility.
