Job summary

Scorpion Therapeutics is seeking a Field Patient Access Director to lead and develop a field-based access organization across geographies. You will set performance expectations, coach teams, and partner with Commercial Training to design onboarding and learning programs.

You will drive readiness for new product launches, act as SME on reimbursement and specialty pharmacy, and collaborate with Sales, Patient Support, and external vendors to optimize access strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 10+ years of leadership in field-based pharma/biotech roles.
  • Experience with rare disease and/or specialty products.
  • Understanding of reimbursement pathways and specialty pharmacy.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Compliance and patient confidentiality knowledge.
  • Knowledge of laws protecting patient information.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop field-based patient access teams (PALs/FRMs) across geographies.
  • Set KPIs and performance expectations; monitor progress and provide feedback.
  • Partner with Commercial Training to design onboarding and learning programs.
  • Scale field operations as the organization grows and pipelines expand.
  • Build talent pipelines through succession planning and development.
  • Oversee readiness for new product/indication launches.
  • Serve as SME on reimbursement, coverage, and third-party services.
  • Analyze payer trends to anticipate barriers and guide mitigation.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on access strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Report insights and promote best practices.

Field Patient Access Director

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing field-based patient access organization (PALs and FRMs) across assigned geographies.
  • Set performance expectations, KPIs, and MBOs; monitor progress and provide ongoing feedback and professional development.
  • Partner with Commercial Training & Development to design and execute onboarding and continuous learning programs.
  • Lead change management to scale/evolve field patient access operations as the organization grows and markets/pipeline expand.
  • Build and maintain a talent pipeline through succession planning, coaching, and proactive development.
  • Own field patient access readiness and execution for new product/indication launches.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on reimbursement, coverage, specialty pharmacy, and third-party services.
  • Analyze payer/reimbursement/access trends to anticipate barriers and guide mitigation.
  • Collaborate with Market Access, Sales, Patient Support, Commercial Operations, and external vendors.
  • Partner with Sales leadership on account planning and local access strategy.
  • Support healthcare providers and office staff through compliant education.
  • Identify process improvements and lead initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Ensure field activities comply with laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Partner with Patient Safety, Pharmacovigilance, and Quality teams for reporting.
  • Monitor activity/performance data and stakeholder feedback; translate insights into recommendations; promote best practices.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical/biotech/healthcare.
  • Progressive field leadership experience.
  • Experience with rare disease and/or specialty products.
  • Deep understanding of reimbursement pathways and specialty pharmacy.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of compliance, patient confidentiality, and access requirements.
  • Knowledge of laws governing protection of patient identifying information.

Salary/Compensation
  • $220,000–$245,000 (varies by qualifications/skills/experience); may include company car, allowance, and bonus eligibility.
