Job summary

West Virginia Coalition to End Homelessness (WVCEH) is seeking a Street Outreach Specialist to engage individuals and families experiencing unsheltered homelessness. This field-based role emphasizes outreach in the community, relationship-building, and connecting clients to housing and supportive services.

You will work outdoors, coordinate with local partners, and maintain records in HMIS while striving to move participants toward safe and stable housing.

Qualifications

• Candidates should demonstrate strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to engage with individuals experiencing homelessness with empathy and professionalism.
• Knowledge of HMIS or willingness to learn is valued.
• A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required or highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular street outreach to locate individuals experiencing homelessness.
• Identify and build rapport with individuals and families in the community.
• Provide individualized, person-centered support to help participants identify barriers and access housing resources.
• Assist participants in navigating housing processes and securing documentation.
• Connect participants to community resources including shelter, healthcare, and benefits.
• Maintain participant records and HMIS entries within 48 hours of contact or service.
• Travel regularly within the service area and to WVCEH office.
• Collaborate with WVCEH programs to provide coordinated assistance.
