Job summary

IQ Fiber is seeking an Outside Plant Engineer to support activation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of our fiber optic network infrastructure. This hands-on, field-based role collaborates with Construction Coordinators, Fiber Splicers, and NOC teams to ensure reliable service.

The ideal candidate has a technical engineering background, 2+ years in outside plant or fiber deployment, and experience with FTTH networks, splicing, and OTDR testing. Occasional after-hours work is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Associate degree in engineering or related field.
• 2+ years in outside plant engineering, fiber deployment, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of fiber network architecture, design, splicing, and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with FTTH architecture and optical networks.
• Experience with network equipment (switches/routers/OLT) and tickets.
• Experience with MS Office applications (Excel/Word).
• Experience in telecom or fiber deployments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute service activations for commercial/enterprise networks.
• Coordinate cable splicing and verify power levels across the fiber network.
• Perform OTDR readings and power measurements; translate results into actions.
• Lead troubleshooting to minimize service disruption.
• Support NOC and Network Engineering teams in operations.
• Collaborate with Construction Coordinators, Splicers, NOC, and vendors.
• Manage firmware updates and change management protocols.
• Develop and maintain accurate network documentation and designs.
• Adhere to IQ Fiber safety and quality standards.
• Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation.
