In this vital role, you’ll help ensure the reliable operation and maintenance of essential water infrastructure, including:
- Water and wastewater pump stations
- Well pumping systems and ASR (Aquifer Storage and Recovery) injection
- Groundwater treatment facilities and distribution systems
- Raw and potable water storage reservoirs

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Starts and stops pumps, engines, generators, and operates valves to control and adjusts flow and processes either manually or by remote control.
- Conducts sampling at various stages of water treatment process and performs routine laboratory analyses.
- Responds to emergency callouts.
- Performs routine building maintenance work.
- Provides recommendations regarding capital and equipment purchases and requisitions of all supplies and materials needed for effective section operation.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance and adjustments to equipment.
- Performs related janitorial, housekeeping duties as required.
- Monitors the performance of all equipment associated with all field facilities and treatment processes, by conducting routine visual inspections, interpreting meter, gauge readings, and test results, for the treatment plants and auxiliary facilities.
- Operates and maintains sewage lift stations, treated water pump stations, well pumping – ASR injection, GWTP, and both raw and potable water reservoirs.
- Operates a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, electric, and air driven tools.
- Enters and exits confined spaces such as underground vaults and manholes.
- Verbally and in writing, reports process and equipment status to other operators and supervisor on a regular basis.
- Maintains records, files, and databases related to field facility operation and maintenance.
- Performs work in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
- Handles hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals during delivery, storage and use.
- Loads, unloads, utilizes the district’s fuel trailer, transports equipment and personnel in District vehicles to a variety of work sites
- Maintains assigned tools and equipment.
- Performs other duties and special assignments, which may be outside the primary areas of employment.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the direct supervision of the Lead Field Operator.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May supervise temporary staff or other staff as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License with an acceptable Motor Vehicle record.
- Availability to work non-scheduled hours when necessary.
- Must be able to respond to the District Facilities within 30 minutes while on-call.

- Knowledge in working with Microsoft Office suite; Word, Excel and PowerPoint
JOB LEVELS FOR FIELD OPERATOR
Field Operations Mechanic 1: up to $33.30 an hour
Required to obtain one of the following certifications within the first year: Colorado Class 1 Distribution Operator or Colorado Class 1 Collection Operator or Class D Water Treatment Operator certifications.
Field Operations Mechanic 2: up to $35.00 an hour
Required to have two of the following certifications: Colorado Class 1 Distribution Operator or Colorado Class 1 Collection Operator or Class D Water Treatment Operator certifications and maintain a Colorado Class A CDL license with Hazmat endorsement.
Field Operations Mechanic 3: up to $36.75 an hour
Required to have two of the following certifications: Colorado Class 2 Distribution Operator or Colorado Class 2 Collection Operator or Class C Water Treatment Operator certifications and maintain a Colorado Class A CDL license with Hazmat endorsement.
Field Operations Mechanic 4: up to $38.50 an hour
Required to have two of the following certifications: Colorado Class 3 Distribution Operator or Colorado Class 3 Collection Operator or Class B Water Treatment Operator and maintain a Colorado Class A CDL license with Hazmat endorsement.
Field Operations Mechanic 5: up to $40.50 an hour
Required to have two of the following certifications: Colorado Class 4 Distribution Operator or Colorado Class 4 Collection Operator Class A Water Treatment Operator and maintain a Colorado Class A CDL license with Hazmat endorsement.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Strenuous physical activity under adverse conditions will be required.Must possess the ability to lift items of 50 pounds or more.You must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect your health and welfare during work activities. Requires standing, walking, stooping/bending, lifting, crawling, climbing, and repetitive motion. Frequently exposed to insects and other animals such as snakes. Required to work in all weather conditions and in extreme temperatures below twenty degrees to above a hundred degrees Fahrenheit.
Perform under hazardous and adverse conditions, including but not limited to, slippery and uneven surfaces, proximity to moving mechanical equipment, broken glass and other materials, vibration, electrical currents, high places, precarious places and confined spaces. Work may result in exposure to smoke, gases, chemicals, fumes, odors, mist, dust, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals that can affect the respiratory system, skin or other aspects of the body.
Work may result in exposure to wastewater and untreated water supplies containing infectious disease agents such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. Work may result in exposure to high noise levels requiring the wearing of personal protection equipment. Frequently exposed to wet and humid conditions.
This position demands frequent use of sensory activities such as talking, hearing, smelling, identifying objects by touch, and specific vision abilities, including but not limited to, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.This position will involve periods of high physical, mental and/or emotional stress. WORK SCHEDULE
Generally, the schedule is on a rotational shift with 40 hours per week. Work schedule will vary depending on weather conditions, projects, staffing and on-call rotation schedule. The employee must be able to be on “24 hour” call for a period of one week as assigned. The employee must be able to arrive at work within 30 minutes of on-call notification. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
