Job description
Position Overview

The Field Operations Industry Expert supports the development of work standards, safety best practices, and training programs for workers who operate and maintain the electric and gas assets that make up a utility company’s grid and pipeline networks. The position involves front-end analysis, reviewing and consulting on as-is and to-be job responsibilities, developing methods for measuring on-the-job performance, designing work processes, and developing recommendations for workforce training. The position also supports the actual design and development of training by working alongside Instructional Designers to evaluate client needs and develop suitable solutions. The Field Operations Industry Expert serves as an advisor to both our clients and Mosaic’s internal team members to provide expertise and industry domain knowledge in support of building solutions that result in positive impacts in workforce performance.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Work with Mosaic project teams and client leadership to define/address personnel knowledge and skill gaps.
  • Leverage expertise and hands-on experience to develop task analysis, work procedures, safety standards, and other deliverables for Utility Field Operations activities.
  • Provide industry expertise for the creation of future state "To Be" business process and derives the associated business outcomes.
  • Evaluate training materials and training effectiveness to ensure end-user needs are met, including the development and evaluation of training metrics used to track end-user performance.
  • Promote strong and long-term partnerships by developing a professional rapport with customers.
Content Development
  • Work with customers to identify training requirements related to Field Operations job processes.
  • Partner with Mosaic’s Instructional Design Consultants to design and develop training materials and continuing education for Field Operations job roles, using a variety of instructional media.
  • Support customer’s training team to ensure that training requirements are met.
Training Delivery
  • Collaborate with team members and other subject matter experts on training delivery to ensure that training is fit for purpose and effective.
  • Partner with Instructional Design team to build scenarios for computer-based practice activities and generate related data to populate the online learning environment.
Skills and Experience
  • Experience as a Field Operations technical professional, trainer for field operations workers, and/or supervisor for Field Operations crews with extensive knowledge of:
    • The systems, tools, and safety protocols that make up the utility grid and/or pipeline complex.
    • Asset maintenance best practices.
    • Inspecting facilities for integrity and safety issues.
    • Following all safety regulations and company-specific safety protocols
    • Understanding and complying with regulatory requirements
    • Documenting work performed, issues encountered, and materials used
  • Direct experience either developing or evaluating work practices and safety procedures for compliance with regulations, industry standards, and/or best practices.
  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated decision-making ability in production deadline-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with diverse groups on a wide range of technical matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to stay current with changing technology and learning trends.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.

Education

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Utility Worker “Journeyman” level certification with ten (10) or more years of hands-on experience or equivalent work history. Additionally, experience as a crew leader, supervisor, or superintendent is preferred.

Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Mosaic strives to set salaries at, or near the 50th percentile (midpoint) of the range and it is not typical for candidates to be hired at or near the top of the range for the position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $150,000.00 to $190,000.00. This position is eligible to participate in a discretionary bonus program of up to 10% of annual compensation. The bonus program is dependent on a variety of factors including organizational and individual performance.
