Job summary

National Fuel is seeking an Operations Training Coordinator in the West Seneca, NY area to evaluate field employees in Operator Qualification tasks and support hands-on mechanical training. The role focuses on safe field performance, coaching, and ensuring compliance with the OQ program.

Ideal candidates have an associate’s degree with supervisory or field ops experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and good communication skills.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree with supervisory or field ops experience
• Current Operator Qualification or ability to become fully qualified per OQ standards
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on work practices
• Detail-oriented with good verbal communication
• Willing to travel to remote offices including overnight stays

Responsibilities

• Evaluate employees and contractors during hands-on Operator Qualification tasks focusing on mechanical work practices and safety compliance
• Assess skill proficiency using mechanical/operational knowledge and provide constructive feedback to employees and field leadership
• Support training activities in classroom, lab, and field settings; demonstrate techniques and reinforce safe work practices
• Develop and update testing equipment, training materials, and exam content to align with OQ Written Plan
• Perform field assessments and coordinate with local field supervisors to support qualifications and field readiness
• Set up and break down testing materials and stations; provide general support for field qualification activities

Field Operations Evaluator - Mechanical Training

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Evaluate National Fuel employees and contractors as they complete hands‑on Operator Qualification tasks, with a focus on mechanical work practices, safe field performance, and compliance with National Fuel’s OQ Program
• Use mechanical and operational knowledge to assess skill proficiency, identify coaching opportunities, and provide clear, constructive feedback to employees and field leadership
• Support training activities in classroom, lab, and field settings, including demonstrating proper techniques, answering technical questions, and reinforcing safe work practices
• Develop, maintain, and update testing equipment, training materials, and exam content to ensure alignment with operational needs and National Fuel’s OQ Written Plan
• Perform field assessments and partner with local field supervisors and managers to provide support, feedback, and follow‑up related to employee qualifications and field readiness
• Set up and break down testing materials and stations and provide general support for field qualification activities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate’s degree and a few years of supervisory experience and/or field operations experience
• Current Operator Qualification, or willingness and ability to become fully Operator Qualified in accordance with National Fuel’s OQ standards
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to understand hands‑on operational work practices
• Strong attention to detail and effective verbal communication/public speaking skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
• Ability to work in both field and office settings and develop a thorough understanding of Operations Department practices
• Ability to travel to remote operating offices as needed, including occasional overnight stays

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Prior experience in an operational capacity with related qualifications within the natural gas industry
• Experience in technical instruction, within classroom, lab, and/or field settings
• Candidates with mechanical experience in utilities, construction, HVAC, automotive/diesel, industrial maintenance, manufacturing, or similar hands‑on technical environments are encouraged to apply

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

The base salary range for this position is $62,500 - $67,000.

This job posting contains a pay range, which represents the range of pay that National Fuel believes, in good faith, at the time of this posting that it might be willing to pay for the posted job. The specific base pay offered to a successful applicant will be based primarily on relevant professional experience. Other components that may be considered include: individual qualifications, licensures, industry specific experience, education and market demands for specialized skills. The pay range is subject to change at any time based on various internal and external factors. Exempt positions will also be eligible for an Annual Cash Bonus Plan.
