Job summary

Kiewit is offering an Intern position in the United States (Oregon) that provides hands-on learning in civil construction management. You will participate in reviewing shop drawings, submittals, schedules, takeoffs, pay requests, contract changes and project documentation, with opportunities to travel and expand your skills.

We look for students pursuing civil engineering or construction management degrees, with a strong work ethic, safety focus, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• Willing to relocate as required by business needs.
• Must be able to work full-time during the summer (May–August).
• Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in civil engineering, construction management or related.
• Ability to access construction sites in varied climates and environments.
• Highly motivated with strong ethics and initiative.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Team player who can also work independently to meet deadlines.
• Excellent organization and time management; reliable transportation.
• Willingness to begin/continue with the company without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Work with a team to build, estimate, and schedule civil, grading, utilities, roadway, and structural construction.
• Support administrative and construction activities; review proposals, specs and drawings; perform material takeoffs; prepare cost estimates; attend pre-bid meetings.
• Learn to supervise subcontractors and communicate with vendors.
• Prepare work plans, ensure quality control, manage costs and materials, schedule equipment, and maintain safety programs.
• Maintain records of job progress, costs, material usage, and scheduling.
• Plan and schedule job segments; investigate issues and propose solutions.
• Review plans/specifications to determine material requirements and pricing.
• Coordinate with suppliers to facilitate material delivery.
