Job summary

Sims Metal, a global leader in metal recycling, seeks a Mobile Maintenance Supervisor to oversee repair, servicing, and preventive maintenance of mobile heavy equipment. You will lead a shift of technicians and field service workers to maximize equipment availability and safety compliance.

Responsibilities include directing daily tasks, coordinating PMs with operations, ensuring OSHA/MSHA safety standards, and mentoring the team while managing parts, WIP, and service providers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technician diploma preferred.
• Journeyperson / trade certification for heavy equipment.
• OSHA 30 / MSHA / First Aid or CPR certifications.
• Valid CDL often required or preferred.
• 5–10 years of hands-on heavy mobile equipment maintenance experience.
• 2+ years of supervisory or maintenance planning experience.

Responsibilities

• Direct, lead, and schedule daily maintenance tasks and field repair operations for mobile equipment.
• Manage emergency breakdown responses to minimize downtime.
• Interface with operations to schedule preventive maintenance without interrupting production targets.
• Oversee CMMS/ERP use to track equipment history and service schedules.
• Mentor and coach mechanics and technicians; evaluate team performance.
