Job summary

The Town of Smithfield, NC seeks a Field Service Technician to perform field meter reading and related clerical work. You will operate the AMI NexGrid system, record readings, and assist with connecting or disconnecting water and electric service for customers, including delinquent accounts.

Tasks include meter re-reads, investigating high usage, reporting issues, and scheduling visits. You will install, replace, or repair meters, explain readings to residents, and drive a service truck in

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 2–5 years public-facing data experience.
• Ability to perform physically demanding fieldwork.
• Must have valid North Carolina driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Operate AMI NexGrid meter reading software.
• Connects/disconnects water and electric service for customers.
• Performs and records meter re-reads; investigates leaks or high usage.
• Schedules appointments with customers to troubleshoot issues.
• Installs, replaces and repairs meters; troubleshoots and programs meters.
• Installs new meters and changes out meters for technology.
• Receives tasks per work orders; responds to contractor calls.
• Records meter readings into hand-held computer.
• Explains meter readings to citizens and answers questions.
