Job summary

The City of Midland is seeking a reliable Meter Reader to help ensure accurate utility services for residents. You will read water meters in neighborhoods, identify issues, and support essential water operations outdoors.

Required is a high school diploma with 1–3 years of meter reading experience and a valid Texas driver’s license. You’ll work closely with citizens and staff, handling work orders and using handheld reading terminals.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1–3 years of meter reading experience preferred.
• Valid Texas driver’s license required.
• Ability to effectively communicate with citizens and employees about meter readings.
• Ability to work with orders and maps to locate street locations.

Responsibilities

• Reads water meters to bill customers; rereads as necessary.
• Reports water leaks and requests for new meter boxes when needed.
• Completes related work orders.
• Performs specialized technical aspects related to reading meters.
• Maintains equipment and vehicle in good working condition.
• Provides back-up support to other staff.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
