Job description

The Opportunity

jade owls operating LLC is a rapidly growing, integrated oil and gas company built on integrity, grit, and cash flow. Since 2022, we’ve grown more than 70x and currently operate 14,000 BOE/d across Northeast Wyoming and Oklahoma.

We are seeking a Field Mechanic to maintain and repair our growing fleet of company-owned natural gas wellhead compressors and generators. This critical role keeps wells online: you will run the preventive maintenance program, answer callouts, and drive uptime improvement. As time allows, you may also help maintain our production equipment and road tractors.

This role will cover well sites in Payne, Logan and Garfield counties, with occasional travel to our other Oklahoma fields.

Responsibilities — What You'll Do
  • Generators: Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on natural gas generator sets running on wellhead gas, including oil and filter changes, spark plugs and ignition, oil sampling, cooling systems and belts, and load and voltage checks. Complete top-end overhauls (heads and valves) and engine swaps, and troubleshoot and repair alternators, voltage regulators and generator controllers.
  • Compressors: Maintain and repair reciprocating wellhead compressors and their natural gas engines, including compressor valves, packing and rings, coolers and radiators, scrubbers and dump valves, lubricators, and shutdown and safety devices.
  • Cooling: Keep radiators and coolers clean and cooling systems in top shape ahead of Oklahoma summer heat.
  • Callouts: Respond quickly to down units, troubleshoot to the root cause, and get them back online. Keep the pumpers and the operations foreman updated until the unit is running. Help drive unit design choices that reduce call-outs (identify and address root cause issues).
  • New Units: Set, connect, and start up new compressors and generators, record startup hour-meter readings, and handle warranty claims.
  • Records: Log every PM, repair, part used and hour-meter reading in our maintenance tracking system the same day, including the records required for EPA engine rules and air permits.
  • Parts: Keep the service truck and shop stocked with filters, plugs, oil, belts, sensors and common spares (so units aren’t waiting on parts).
  • Oil Analysis: Pull oil samples on every change and act on the results before a failure.
  • Additional Maintenance: As time allows, perform PMs and repairs on company road tractors and support the production team with engines and equipment on our wells.
  • Continuous Improvement: Flag problem units, recommend repair, rebuild or replace, and help write PM checklists and procedures.
  • Safety First: Follow lockout/tagout, H2S, hot work and PPE requirements on every job, and stop any job that is not safe.
Qualifications — What We're Looking For
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing natural gas engines, gas compressors or generator sets in oil and gas, power generation or heavy industrial service.
  • Working knowledge of spark-ignited natural gas engines: ignition, fuel regulators and carburetion, governors, and cooling and lubrication systems.
  • Experience with reciprocating gas compressors (valves, packing, rings, cylinders) or generator alternators and controls; experience with both is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot 12/24 VDC control and shutdown circuits, sensors and wiring, and to work safely around 3-phase AC power. Able to read wiring diagrams and service manuals.
  • A root-cause troubleshooting mindset: fix the problem, not just the symptom.
  • A professional set of personal hand tools.
  • Comfortable logging work orders, hours and parts on a phone or tablet.
  • Willingness to take callouts on nights, weekends, and holidays as operationally required.
  • Live within a reasonable drive of our well sites to answer callouts.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving record review.
  • Good understanding of the importance and user of personal protective equipment (PPE) and a safety-oriented mindset.
Work Environment
  • Outdoor field work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs., climb, kneel, and work in tight spaces.
  • Exposure to hazardous equipment and H2S environments
  • Working independently more than 80% of the time
  • Frequent field travel between operating locations
  • Work around running engines and rotating equipment, high‑pressure natural gas, hot surfaces and energized electrical equipment.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Hourly, non‑exempt position
  • Eligible for overtime pay in accordance with federal and state wage and hour laws
  • 100% employer paid medical, vision, and dental premiums for applicable plans
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan with generous match
  • Paid Time Off and Company Holidays
  • Potential RSU awards, subject to plan terms, performance, and company discretion
  • Career growth with potential for future advancement
