Southland Construction, Inc. is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Construction Field Mechanic to maintain, diagnose, and repair heavy construction equipment on active sites across Florida. This role is field-based and requires travel in a company truck.

You will work with superintendents, foremen, and operators to keep earthmoving equipment running safely, manage preventive maintenance, diagnose problems, and perform on-site repairs, with overtime and after-hours as needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience maintaining heavy construction equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and on-site servicing.
  • Able to read manufacturer specifications and follow safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy construction equipment and vehicles.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine servicing, including oil changes, lubrication, filters, fluids, belts, hoses, and brakes.
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, hydraulic, electrical, fuel, cooling, transmission, and braking systems.
  • Service and repair excavators, loaders, dozers, graders, skid steers, backhoes, rollers, pavers, pumps, generators, dump trucks, and other heavy equipment.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform field repairs at active construction sites.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records and communicate equipment needs to management and project personnel.

General Overview:

Southland Construction, Inc. is looking for an experienced Heavy Civil Construction Field Mechanic to maintain, diagnose, and repair heavy construction equipment and vehicles used on heavy highway, bridge, utility, and infrastructure projects. This position is primarily field-based and will travel in company provided work truck to active construction sites to perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency repairs.

The Field Mechanic will work closely with Superintendents, Foremen, equipment operators, and management to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently while minimizing equipment downtime.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy construction equipment and vehicles.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine servicing, including oil changes, lubrication, filters, fluids, belts, hoses, and brakes.
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, hydraulic, electrical, fuel, cooling, transmission, and braking systems.
  • Service and repair excavators, loaders, dozers, graders, skid steers, backhoes, rollers, pavers, pumps, generators, dump trucks, and other heavy equipment.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform field repairs at active construction sites.
  • Conduct inspections to identify potential equipment problems and minimize downtime.
  • Repair and replace hydraulic hoses, fittings, cylinders, pumps, valves, and electrical components.
  • Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication when qualified.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records and communicate equipment needs to management and project personnel.
  • Maintain the company service truck, tools, equipment, parts, and supplies in an organized and safe condition.
  • Assist with equipment inspections, mobilization, demobilization, and transportation.
  • Follow manufacturer specifications, company procedures, OSHA requirements, and all project-specific safety standards.
  • Use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Travel between construction projects as needed to provide maintenance and emergency field service.
  • Work overtime, weekends, nights, or emergency call-outs as required.
