Job summary

West Virginia Paving, Inc., a CRH company, is seeking a skilled mechanic to service and diagnose equipment used in roadway construction across West Virginia. The role requires hands-on work with heavy machinery, fittings and electrical/hydraulic systems, and a focus on safety and reliability.

Responsibilities include performing maintenance, minor repairs, and supporting a team of operators in a fast-paced environment, with overtime and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years mechanic experience working on construction equipment, preferably asphalt paving equipment.
• Able to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends and holidays.
• Able to follow written and oral instructions.
• Must have own tools up to ¾” drive mechanical and pneumatic and other tools required to perform job tasks.
• Must be able to stick weld mild steel and use cutting torches.

Mechanic

Job Description Summary

• Multi‑functional position, incorporating the performance of mechanic duties on various pieces of machinery and operating equipment.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years mechanic experience working on construction equipment, preferably asphalt paving equipment
• Able to work flexible hours as required. This includes overtime, weekends and holidays
• Able to work in a team environment with a positive attitude and must be able to get along with co‑workers
• Able to follow written and oral instructions
• Must have own tools up to ¾” drive mechanical and pneumatic and other tools required to perform job tasks
• Must be able to stick weld mild steel as a minimum requirement
• Able to use cutting torches and all other shop related tools
• Able to read and understand hydraulic and electrical schematics
• Hydraulic and electrical system trouble‑shooting and diagnostic skills required
• Basic computer skills for Excel based systems and/or OEM diagnostic systems
• Able to use hands and fingers to manipulate objects, climb ladders, work at heights, stoop, kneel, crawl, crouch and move objects up to 50 lbs
• Able to wear PPE as required to perform job duties safely
• Must have state issued driver’s license for up to 26,000# vehicles
• Able to follow the safety policies of West Virginia Paving Inc./prime contractor and companies we perform work for
• These requirements are not all inclusive and may be changed as deemed necessary
• Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job
• Attitude/Cooperation: Must always maintain a courteous and professional manner with co‑workers, customers, public
• Ability to be flexible with last minute schedule changes, location changes, time of shift changes. Overtime work required. Out of town/county/state work may be required
• Initiative to perform/assist with other positions for job completion
• Must pass drug test and background check

Education / Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required
• Must provide own tools to utilize in position
• 5 years experience working on construction equipment
