Sumter Utilities, Inc. (a Quanta Services company) seeks a commercial vehicle technician for work in the Charlotte, NC - Upper SC region. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in mechanical support of a Commercial or Military Fleet, with preference for experience maintaining & repairing construction vehicles/equipment.

Basic requirements include:

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Diesel/Auto Certification from Technical/Vocational/Military program OR equivalent education & experience
  • Ability & willingness to travel on short notice for Field Operations

Prior ASE Medium-Heavy Truck Certification (Tests T1-T8) is preferred but not required. Active employees may be offered opportunities to obtain ASE Certification and must maintain certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Forklift Operation.

The Field/Shop Mechanic is responsible for maintenance, repair, and servicing of diesel engines and related systems, ensuring vehicle and equipment safety and efficiency. Responsibilities include diagnosing mechanical issues, conducting preventative maintenance, and performing repairs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance and Repairs: Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmission, brakes, and fuel systems. Perform routine maintenance and replace malfunctioning parts. Repair booms, trailers, and other equipment.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify issues through diagnostics and inspections. Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical problems.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Conduct regular maintenance, document records, and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Parts Management: Maintain inventory, order parts, and ensure quality repairs.
  • Customer Service: Coordinate with service teams, communicate with internal customers, and report emergencies.
  • Safety and Compliance: Follow safety procedures, regulations, and environmental standards.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Keep detailed service records, perform pre/post-trip inspections.
