Job summary

The City of Columbia SC seeks a dedicated maintenance worker to support the operations of its Public Works division. This role involves heavy physical labor, including frequent lifting, and requires adherence to safety standards while performing routine maintenance and tree-related tasks.

Responsibilities include operating chainsaws, trucks, and various tools, loading materials, and assisting coworkers. A high school diploma or GED and a valid SC Driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Some chainsaw experience preferred.
• Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Prunes or removes trees in City rights-of-way and other properties.
• Operates chainsaws, wood chippers, stump grinders and other tools to complete duties.
• Loads and unloads materials onto vehicles.
• cleans and removes debris from work sites.
• Inspects equipment and reports defects to supervisor.
• Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
• Drives and operates trucks and vehicles; uses hand and power tools.
• Performs duties in accordance with department policies and safety standards.
