HOURLY RATE: $38.80
POSITION SUMMARY:This position involves precision machining, mechanical maintenance, occasional emergent ship repairs, and yard mechanical maintenance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The role requires a high level of mechanical ability and proficiency in multiple areas, including field machining, operating boring bars and milling machines, and complying with safety and environmental measures. Responsibilities include replacing defective parts, aligning machines, assembling and installing equipment, working with blueprints, rigging, operating various machine tools, and demonstrating proficiency with shop measuring tools. The position also involves working with shipboard machinery, propulsion systems, pumps, steam systems, underwater hull machinery, and shipboard systems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or GED required. 5 years of relevant work experience preferred. Proven skills or applicable education may be considered in lieu of experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Includes standing, walking, climbing, working at heights, confined spaces, handling tools, lifting up to 35 pounds, and other physical activities necessary for the role.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:Primarily indoors in a shop setting, occasionally outdoors. Safety equipment such as hard hats, eye and ear protection, respirators, and steel-toe shoes are required. Exposure to various chemicals, fumes, noise, and other hazards may occur.
