Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Construction Materials Technician for our Phoenix, AZ team. You will perform field and laboratory tests on soil, asphalt, and concrete, collecting samples and preparing data for engineering analysis.

The role requires 3+ years of materials testing experience, a valid driver's license, and the ability to work independently in diverse outdoor and lab environments, with about 15% overnight travel.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of Construction Materials Testing experience.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Able to use laboratory test equipment safely and effectively.
• Able to understand procedure manuals and execute work orders.
• Able to prepare reports and documentation.
• Able to follow directions and have attention to detail.
• May require ability to lift and carry soil, asphalt and concrete samples and use a wheelbarrow.
• Able to work independently.
• Must pass background check and have satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Will work as a valued member of our team and conduct tests and investigations in the field or laboratory to obtain data used by engineering and technical personnel in determining physical properties of construction materials.
• Demonstrate integrity in all testing and reporting activities ensuring accuracy, transparency and accountability in results.
• Perform field and laboratory tests according to prescribed procedures, processes and standards.
• Collect soil, asphalt and concrete samples, prepare samples for testing, record data, and prepare summary report.
• Use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare analyses, reports and / or technical drawings.
• Operate computer systems and peripheral equipment.
• Maintain results log.
• Enter data and use spreadsheet computer programs.
• Confer with Engineers and Scientific staff on test and design efforts.
• Set up, maintain and calibrate equipment.
• May require some lifting and carrying.
• Field assignments may require travel and / or work to be performed on site under a variety of environmental and climatic conditions for extended periods of time. Approximately 15% overnight travel.
