Job summary

West Virginia University’s Davis College seeks a Temporary Field Interviewer to support the NMS-Count program with the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation. You will conduct face-to-face interviews with coastal visitors as they exit recreation sites, traveling to multiple locations and possibly weekends.

Expect shifts in morning, afternoon, or evening. The role requires data collection across sites, safety-first interviewing, data download, and weekly reporting to the field supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 0–6 months of in-field data collection or related experience.
  • Ability to travel and interact with the public independently.
  • Travel and local recreation familiarity.
  • All qualifications must be met by employment time.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct recreation surveys at sites adjacent to national marine sanctuary waters.
  • Check schedules and plan survey drives using GPS/maps.
  • Set up interviewing sites safely.
  • Download data from tablets and report to field supervisor.
  • Maintain organized surveys and daily counts.
  • Compile weekly site-use and weather reports for supervisor.
