Job summary

City of Detroit seeks an Inspector II to execute contractor construction services for major and minor Detroit Water and Sewerage Department projects. You will interpret plans, supervise field tests, prepare reports, and assist engineers in correcting defects to meet contract specs.

Responsibilities include attending meetings, tracking progress, ensuring safety on sites, and training staff. Requires related certifications and strong communication within teams.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Two years’ experience in construction with preferred experience in treatment plants or distribution systems.
• EPA certifications listed above.
• MIOSHA and MDOT certifications as required.

Responsibilities

• Review plans, blueprints, sketches and specifications for construction projects.
• Maintain quality control with inspection and material testing on construction projects.
• Prepare daily/weekly logs and reports for construction accounting and historical reporting.
• Advise engineers to correct defective work to avoid non-compliance reports.
• Attend construction meetings and monitor schedules for contract payments.

EPA Lead Abatement Certification

MDOT Base Materials Testing Certification

MDOT Concrete Materials Testing Certification

MDOT Asphalt Materials Testing Certification

40 Hour HAZWOPER Training (preferred)

Knowledge of combined sewer systems (preferred)

Knowledge of Stormwater SCMs (preferred)
