Job summary

Dewberry is seeking Construction Inspectors to monitor highway, bridge, and utility project work in Northern Virginia and related Virginia locations. The role focuses on quality control and contract compliance for moderately to highly complex roadway and bridge construction projects.

Based in Virginia Beach, VA, the position requires reading plans, ensuring safety and adherence to specs, and coordinating with DOT representatives and contractors.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of civil construction inspection or related experience.
• Ability to read and interpret roadway and bridge plans and contract specifications.
• Working skill in operating computer equipment, software programs, and field inspection equipment.
• Ability to drive assigned and/or personal vehicles within roadways and project sites to perform construction inspection activities.

Responsibilities

• Monitor operations to ensure contractor compliance with plans, contract terms, and specifications.
• Coordinate and schedule various phases of construction inspection with the contractor, DOT representatives, and other agencies.
• Review and monitor the contractor's plan of operation including phasing and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans.
• Advise contractors of violations and review and recommend approval of corrective measures.
• Identify necessary changes to construction plans to meet field conditions.
• Make field measurements of pay items and conduct materials testing.
• Observe and monitor contractor's construction equipment.
• Maintain and review comprehensive project records including daily diaries, materials notebooks, as-built plans, pay quantity records, progress schedules, work orders, and monthly estimates.
• Successful candidates will be authorized to obtain all VDOT inspection and materials testing certifications at no cost to the employee.
