About the Role

The Field Inspector is responsible for providing support and conducting inspections and audits on contractor work sites for New York City Transit projects. Monitor nightly and daily construction civil activities to ensure contractors comply with Boldyn construction drawings, engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design instructions. Work with contractors and NYCT to authorize spontaneous changes within guidelines to maintain project fluidity and ensure project closure through punch‑list completion and acceptance.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physical inspections and review project plans to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and quality requirements.
• Lead, direct, and provide guidance to the Field Inspection team, setting clear expectations and conveying instructions.
• Maintain daily construction reports, including activities, quantities completed, quality issues, changes, and labor time sheets with cost codes.
• Ensure installation of POE conduit and cabling meets drawing specifications; monitor daily (night or day shift).
• Assist Construction Managers and Field Supervisors in expediting subcontractors and resolve field‑related questions.
• Verify that approved drawings and revisions are used in the field, and resolve conflicts between drawings, field conditions, and specifications by coordinating with Design Engineers and sub‑trades.
• Report accurate labor cost quantities and monitor material ledgers to ensure estimates remain sufficient for completion.
• Coordinate inspection requests with the Quality Manager, cell‑phone carriers, and subcontractors as needed.
• Inspect installation work for conformance with design drawings and specifications; approve as‑built work using red‑line drawings.
• Ensure work is conducted in accordance with safety requirements and report any issues to the Boldyn Safety Manager.
• Communicate with on‑site NYCT and subcontractor representatives and provide access to Boldyn Networks Base Station hotels and supervise subcontractors.
• Monitor fiber splicing, OTDR, and throughput testing by contractors and prepare reports.
• Other duties as directed by the Project Manager, including participating in punch‑list walkthroughs and preparing necessary checklists.
• Lead by example, promoting integrity, honesty, and ethical behavior among the Field Inspection team, and follow MTA and Boldyn incident‑reporting protocols.

Qualifications

• 5 years of experience as a field inspector or in a similar role.
• Experience working with contractors or inspection consultants.
• Knowledge of or experience with telecom installation and NYC Transit projects preferred.
• Familiarity with NYCDOT, NYSDOT, ECS, or Verizon ducts is a plus.
• Availability days, nights, and weekends.
• Detail‑oriented with strong analysis, problem‑identification, and problem‑solving skills.
• OSHA‑30 or SST Worker Card NYC Track Safety training preferred/desired.
• Certification in fiber testing and splicing is a plus but not required.
• iBwave Certificate is a plus.
• MTA PGM‑123 training or MTA Blue Card holder preferred/desired but not required.
