Job summary

Fervo Energy in Houston, TX seeks an I&C Commissioning Engineer to plan, execute, and oversee all instrumentation, controls, and SCADA commissioning across geothermal projects. You will own the full commissioning lifecycle from loop checks to handover.

The role requires 7+ years in I&C, DCS/SCADA/PLC, SIS interlocks, and field deployment with travel. Bachelor's in instrumentation/electrical engineering preferred; OSIsoft PI/Ignition experience and strong documentation skills are expected.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in I&C and controls commissioning in power generation, process, or industrial facilities.
• Hands-on experience with loop checks, instrument calibration, I/O verification, and functional testing of instrumentation in complex industrial environments.
• Experience commissioning DCS, PLC, and/or SCADA systems including control logic verification, alarm configuration, and historian setup.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, cause-and-effect matrices, and control narratives accurately.
• Experience with SIS/safety interlock commissioning and verification of independence from BPCS.
• Willing to travel 25–75% to project sites.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to document test results, deficiencies, and risk dispositions for technical/non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Develop I&T Plans for all I&C and controls systems based on design specs and standards.
• Define loop check strategy and instrument calibration program; maintain loop check database.
• Review control narratives and interlock logic; identify gaps between design and field config.
• Develop commissioning procedures, test packages, and work permits for all I&C and controls testing.
• Define DCS/SCADA commissioning sequencing to support safe system startup.
• Lead on-site execution of loop checks, calibration, and signal validation.
• Inspect, calibrate, and verify field instrumentation against calibration records.
• Commission DCS and PLC systems: verify I/O, test logic, alarm setpoints, and historian data.
• Commission SCADA systems: verify communications, tag config, operator displays, and historian integration.
• Test SIS functions, interlocks, and process trips; ensure independence from BPCS where required.
• Troubleshoot instrumentation and control logic; coordinate with OEM and Engineering to resolve deficiencies.
• Prepare I&C turnover dossiers and completion reports for Operations.
