Job summary

State of Iowa invites applications for a Highway Technician to inspect construction projects during the summer and assist maintenance garages with snow removal operations in the winter. The role supports multiple areas and contributes to safer roadways as part of a cohesive team.

The position emphasizes safety, accuracy, and the ability to handle high-volume typing across various digital platforms. Residency is required within 45 minutes of the Dubuque maintenance garage, with a 7:00 AM–3:30 PM

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalency is required.
• Two years of full-time work in highway maintenance or related fields may substitute for part of the experience.

Responsibilities

• Inspect materials and construction during highway projects.
• Maintain construction records.
• Inform contractors and inspectors of quality issues or non-complying work.
• Operate snow equipment to clear roadways during winter.
• Perform routine maintenance on DOT equipment and vehicles.
• Repair and maintain guardrails, signs, fences, and lighting.
