Job summary

The City of Muskogee seeks a Public Works Equipment Operator I to perform semiskilled maintenance across water, streets, and sewer facilities. Responsibilities include repairing hydrants, operating backhoes and loaders, and performing manual labor as needed. Regular attendance and adherence to safety are essential.

Requires high school diploma or GED and two years in trades or maintenance, plus at least one year operating trucks and equipment. CDL-B is required within nine months.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED plus two years as a trades helper or maintenance laborer.
• One year of experience operating trucks and light to medium construction equipment.
• Knowledge of manual labor practices, safety precautions, tools and materials.

Responsibilities

• Participates in repair and replacement of hydrants, valves and distribution lines.
• Operates a range of light to medium construction equipment.
• Performs pipefitting, painting, cement work, plumbing and carpentry when not operating equipment.
• Performs general manual labor and other duties as assigned.
• Reports for work regularly.
• Supervised by Streets Maintenance Leader II; some roles oversee others.
