Job summary

ECS Group of Companies is seeking a geotechnical technician to perform field observations, sampling and testing on active construction sites. You will operate soil tests, logging of borings, and coordinate with project managers while adhering to established engineering practices.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED with a preference for a BS in Civil Engineering and involves lifting and travel. Training and certification support are provided by ECS.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university preferred.

Responsibilities

• Layout of borings and test pits by conventional surveying and GPS; observation and classification of test pits and soils; hand auger borings; DCP testing; soil logging; other geotechnical field work.
• Office responsibilities include classification of samples obtained from drilling operations; reduction of GPS and other geotechnical data for utilization and production.
• May also include department administrative duties and work in the construction materials testing department.
• Work primarily on active construction sites with field observation, testing, sampling and inspection of soil, aggregates, concrete, grout, masonry, asphalt and structural steel placement.
• Under direction of staff professionals/project managers, perform routine field and/or laboratory tests and assist in more complex tasks; may involve calculations and data reduction; drafting as required.
• Daily communication with site contractors, other technicians and project managers; ECS will train in observations, inspections and testing and document findings per engineering practice; opportunities for certification through various bodies.
