Job summary

Peoples Gas System in Florida seeks a Utility Technician to operate, service, and locate natural gas pipelines and metering equipment, ensuring safety and compliance. Responsibilities include installing meters, reading meters, and responding to emergencies in a dynamic field setting.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, 1–4 years of gas ops experience, and the ability to read maps, operate computers, and perform basic math with sound judgment.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or GED.
• 1–2 years experience in gas operations; or 3–4 years of related natural gas experience.
• Must be able to perform all functions of the PGS Apprentice Utility Technician position.
• Must understand basic map reading and be able to operate a computer and tools.
• Must be able to perform basic math functions.
• Must possess sound judgment and follow complex oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Reads meters and turns on/off residential and commercial gas service and meters.
• Investigates metering equipment related to residential and commercial readings or anomalies.
• Fabricates and joins gas piping/fittings including mains, services, and meter sets; may weld.
• Performs locating of underground natural gas systems.
• Responds to leaks and emergencies; completes reports and required forms.
