Job summary

Virginia Department of Forestry is seeking a Forest Technician for the Five Forks District. The role focuses on field inspections, BMP enforcement, wildfire response, and support to landowners and professionals across Amelia and Nottoway Counties.

Responsibilities include forestry data collection, GPS/GIS mapping, equipment maintenance, and collaboration with local government partners. Willingness to travel and be on call during fire seasons is required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge or experience with forestry, logging, or natural resource management.
• Ability to work independently in a team setting and multi-task.
• Strong English communication and public speaking skills.

Responsibilities

• Inspect logging operations for compliance with forestry BMPs.
• Assist loggers and landowners with pre-harvest planning and BMP recommendations.
• Prevent and suppress wildland fires and enforce forest laws.
• Maintain firefighting equipment and coordinate with local departments.
• Perform GPS & GIS mapping and data collection.
