Job summary

JPalmer Collective is seeking a Field Examiner to conduct collateral field examinations and ongoing portfolio monitoring for a fast-growing lending platform. You will interact with borrowers, senior management, and third-party service providers while evaluating financial and operational data.

The role emphasizes documenting findings, enforcing compliance, and presenting actionable analysis to underwriting and credit leadership. Willingness to travel is essential.

Qualifications

  • Prior field examination and/or audit experience.
  • Experience in asset-based lending, commercial finance, restructuring, or specialty finance.
  • Strong understanding of accounts receivable collateral, inventory collateral, borrowing base structures, financial statements and general ledger systems.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational ability.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site and virtual collateral field examinations for borrowers.
  • Review and test accounts receivable, inventory, accounts payable, cash activity, payroll, taxes, insurance, and general ledger integrity.
  • Perform collateral testing including AR roll-forwards, cash testing, inventory counts, and collateral validation.

Job description

Role Overview

The Field Examiner will play a critical role in both pre-close due diligence and ongoing portfolio monitoring. This individual will conduct collateral field examinations, evaluate borrower reporting integrity, identify operational and fraud risks, and provide actionable analysis to the underwriting and portfolio management teams.

This is a highly visible role reporting directly to the Chief Credit Officer and will involve significant interaction with senior management, borrowers, and third-party service providers.

The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, comfortable traveling, and capable of independently analyzing complex financial and operational data.

Key Mandate

The primary mandate is to build and enforce institutional-quality documentation and compliance infrastructure across a fast-growing lending platform.

This includes:

  • Creating order across fragmented systems
  • Ensuring all loan files are complete, accurate, and audit-ready
  • Enforcing consistent naming, filing, and tracking protocols
  • Supporting internal teams with clear, accessible legal documentation
Core Responsibilities

1. Field Examinations & Due Diligence

  • Conduct on-site and virtual collateral field examinations for prospective and existing borrowers
  • Review and test accounts receivable, inventory, accounts payable, cash activity, Payroll, taxes (corporate, payroll, and sales), insurance, and general ledger integrity
  • Perform detailed collateral testing, including: Accounts receivable roll-forwards, Cash application testing, Sales cutoff testing, Inventory test counts and obsolescence analysis, Reconciliation of borrowing base certificates to underlying records, Verification of customer concentrations and dilution trends, & Collateral testing
  • Assess internal controls, operational processes, and potential fraud indicators
  • Evaluate financial reporting accuracy and borrower data reliability

2. Portfolio Monitoring

  • Conduct recurring monitoring exams on existing borrowers
  • Identify collateral deterioration, reporting inconsistencies, operational weaknesses, or emerging credit concerns
  • Assist underwriting and portfolio teams with ongoing collateral analysis and risk assessment
  • Borrowing base integrity

3. Third-Party Examiner Oversight

  • Coordinate and schedule third-party field exams for new business and existing accounts
  • Manage relationships with external field exam firms
  • Review third-party reports for completeness, accuracy, and quality
  • Challenge assumptions, validate findings, and ensure consistency with internal standards

4. Reporting and Communication

  • Prepare detailed written reports summarizing findings, risks, exceptions, and recommendations
  • Present findings to credit leadership and deal teams
  • Communicate professionally with borrower management teams during examinations
  • Escalate material risks, control deficiencies, or fraud concerns promptly
Required Experience
  • Prior field examination and/or audit experience required
  • Experience in asset-based lending, commercial finance, restructuring, or specialty finance
  • Strong understanding of: Accounts receivable collateral,Inventory collateral,Borrowing base structures,Financial statements and general ledger systems
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational ability
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple engagements simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to travel regularly for on-site examinations
Preferred Competencies
  • Experience with third-party field exam firms or commercial bank exam functions
  • CPA or accounting background a plus
  • Experience identifying operational or fraud-related risks
