Job Description

The seasonal Field Environmental Scientist will provide support for sampling programs and field work anticipated this summer and fall for Kuna Engineering and its clients throughout Alaska. The individual should be experienced with scientific method and problem solving to support successful field sampling programs. The Environmental Scientist shall work with the environmental team to ensure sampling programs are completed according to method requirements and program goals.

Responsibilities

• Technical execution of environmental sampling programs at remote sites across Alaska, including at active mine sites

• Leadership of field sampling and data collection projects including leadership of other supporting Kuna employees and/or subcontractor(s).

• Management of health and safety for field programs as assigned.

• Client interaction during field sampling programs.

• Problem solving to ensure the successful completion of sampling program requirements.

• This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.

• Bachelor’s degree in sciences preferred.

• Experience with sample collection, field notes, and data management.

• Experience following health and safety requirements.

• Ability to adapt to and maintain a safety conscious work environment.

• Ability to demonstrate, conduct, and conform to a set of values and accepted standards, such as honesty, integrity, reliability, and accountability.

• Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task and perform work accurately and thoroughly.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors/Outdoors – Frequent exposure to moderate to harsh weather conditions. Requires work to be done both inside and outside.

Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Description of environment: Frequently required to be outside at construction/project sites. Also occasionally inside in standard office setting.

Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

Travel: Travel required up to 50% of the time. Employee will travel to remote areas and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes and ATVs.
