Job summary

ERM is hiring an Environmental Inspector to perform environmental compliance inspections at an electric substation in Sacramento, San Francisco, and San Jose, California. The role requires field work, attention to safety procedures, and the ability to educate construction crews on project requirements.

This full-time, limited-term position lasts up to 3 months with possible renewal. Candidates should have 3+ years' inspection experience, a Science degree, and strong communication skills to

Qualifications

• 3+ years of construction inspection or monitoring.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Biology, or related discipline preferred.
• Knowledge of environmental disciplines including SWPPP BMP installation, water/resource protection, biology, cultural, waste management.
• Ability to communicate effectively and learn from senior Environmental Inspectors.
• Working vehicle with valid driver’s license to travel to project locations.
• Strong observation and organizational skills; experience recording technical data is a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel for inspection documentation.
• SWPPP certifications or nesting biology experience desirable.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections, monitoring, and survey work as directed.
• Serve as a point of contact with agency officials, regulatory staff, landowners, contractors, clients, and project members.
• Review project documents and provide support on environmental compliance issues.
• Assess environmental conditions to evaluate potential impacts from construction.
• Evaluate potential issues ahead of construction activities.
• Oversee the proper implementation of mitigation measures.
• Oversee and verify flagging of wetlands, exclusion zones, stormwater BMPs, refueling zones, etc.
• Prepare daily inspection reports with up-to-date written and photo documentation.
• Participate in construction meetings.
• Support compliance with spill prevention, wastewater, stormwater, and waste management regulations.
• Work safely with PPE and adhere to ERM and client requirements.
• Communicate with ERM Project Manager and client staff; develop client relationships for stewardship.
