Job description

Field Engineering Technologist – Mechanical Construction

If you know mechanical construction well enough to spot a field issue before it becomes a schedule problem—and can manage the paperwork just as well as the work in the field—keep reading.

Per Sé Group is seeking an experienced Field Engineering Technologist – Mechanical Construction to support major capital projects for a leading energy organization. This role sits at the intersection of field construction, contractor coordination, and project administration, helping ensure mechanical work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.

If structural steel, piping, boilermaker work, bid packages, RFIs, Field Change Orders, contractor coordination, and progress tracking are already part of your world, we should talk.

What You’ll Do
  • Support day-to-day field execution under the direction of the Construction Manager.

  • Provide field coordination and oversight of mechanical construction activities, including structural steel, piping, boilermaker work, and related disciplines.

  • Coordinate contractor activities through Field Supervisors to maintain alignment with approved schedules and work plans.

  • Participate in site walkdowns and lead construction and progress meetings.

  • Verify field construction against drawings, specifications, work packages, and project requirements.

  • Monitor contractor performance, installed quantities, productivity, progress, and completion of work.

  • Identify construction risks, variances, and non‑conformances and elevate issues appropriately.

  • Develop and issue construction bid packages and support the contractor bidding process.

  • Coordinate contractor communications and maintain accurate bid and project documentation.

  • Generate, administer, track, and report Requests for Information (RFIs).

  • Create, administer, and track Field Change Orders (FCOs) and related documentation.

  • Monitor and update project schedules and support Project Controls with progress and forecasting information.

  • Prepare accurate daily and weekly construction reports.

  • Maintain inspection, verification, installed-progress, and field documentation.

  • Support change identification, documentation, and project closeout activities.

  • Participate in hazard identification, safety meetings, and field observations.

  • Verify contractor compliance with approved safety plans, permits, procedures, and project requirements.

  • Serve as a liaison between contractors, Engineering, Project Controls, field personnel, and project leadership.

  • Communicate construction issues, risks, and recommendations clearly and proactively.

This role provides field verification, coordination, oversight, and project administration. It does not direct contractor means and methods or hold final authority for project budgets, contracts, or commercial decisions.

What You’ll Bring
  • 6–8 years of experience supporting major industrial construction projects.

  • Strong mechanical construction background with significant experience involving structural steel, piping, boilermaker activities, and related mechanical disciplines.

  • Working knowledge of civil construction activities.

  • Proven leadership experience in a mechanical construction environment, including coordination of personnel and contractors.

  • Experience developing and issuing bid packages and supporting contractor bid processes.

  • Hands‑on experience creating, administering, and tracking RFIs and Field Change Orders (FCOs).

  • Experience monitoring construction schedules, progress, installed quantities, and contractor performance.

  • Strong project administration and documentation capabilities.

  • Advanced computer proficiency and ability to work effectively with project reporting and documentation systems.

  • Strong understanding of industrial construction practices and field safety requirements.

  • Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, active construction environment.

  • Diploma or degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related discipline.

If you can walk a mechanical construction site in the morning, identify what could derail execution, coordinate the solution, and have the RFI, FCO, schedule update, and progress report handled by the end of the day—we should talk.
