Job description

The Field Engineering Manager provides leadership and oversight for the field technician ecosystem across assigned school sites. This role blends technical operations with brand stewardship, ensuring school environments reflect our organization’s standards of excellence in technology integration, reliability, and presentation. You’ll lead internal staff and external partners to deliver consistent, brand-aligned service that enhances the educational experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Brand Management & Site Standards

  • Serve as the primary custodian of brand and technology standards across school sites, ensuring physical and digital technology assets consistently represent the organization’s values and expectations.
  • Conduct routine site inspections to verify adherence to our technology standards, field technician effectiveness, equipment setup, and user experience meet defined guidelines.
  • Use checklists, site photos/videos, and feedback to monitor adherence and suggest improvements that align with school branding and user satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with school leaders to reinforce standards and address gaps with practical, empathetic solutions.

Technical Operations & Oversight

  • Ensure operational readiness of all technology systems across assigned schools, including hardware, software, networking, and security devices.
  • Manage and maintain inspection checklists and visit protocols (weekly, monthly, seasonal) to enforce predictable, high-quality service delivery.
  • Respond quickly and professionally to all escalations from school leadership, providing support during and outside of regular business hours as needed.

Field Leadership & Partner Management

  • Mentor and guide internal technicians, fostering professional growth and encouraging accountability and excellence.
  • Oversee external service providers to ensure compliance with contracts, timelines, and brand expectations.
  • Promote a service-oriented mindset, strengthening relationships with school administrators (Head of School, Directors, Regional VPs) through reliable communication and responsiveness.

Strategic Feedback & Planning

  • Provide actionable feedback based on site visits and system data to support equipment lifecycle planning and procurement.
  • Support IT leadership with seasonal forecasts and insights drawn from direct field interactions.
  • Advocate for technology enhancements that improve consistency, ease of use, and brand presence across educational environments.

Administrative & Documentation Responsibilities

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation on projects, site visits, equipment performance, and procedures.
  • Use help desk and ticketing systems to log support activities, trends, and team performance.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes, documentation, and user training materials.

Requirements:

  • Associate Degree in Computer Science or related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in educational or school-based environments preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to support users while reinforcing technical and brand standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage technical staff and partner vendors.
  • High emotional intelligence and situational awareness when working with school leaders and staff.
  • Willingness to travel overnight (up to 25%) and adapt work hours based on school site needs.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs. and meet physical demands of school site work.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

The annual starting salary for this position is between $80,000 – $90,000annually. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
