Job description

Primoris Heavy Civil is currently hiring an experienced Field Engineer for our Laredo, Tx project. The Field Engineer will be solely responsible for providing assistance to field staff on roads and highway construction activities. (Permanent Relocation)

Job Description:

Provide technical engineering expertise to a specific project and assist in field construction activities, assuring compliance with project plans and specifications.

Functional Requirements:

  • Coordinate with Superintendents and Foremen to ensure project plans and specifications are being followed and that the most cost-effective methods are employed.
  • Bring deficiencies of plans to the attention of the inspector and Project Manager.
  • Assist with resolution of problems with inspectors.
  • Measure all work put in place, monitor the accumulation and documentation of quantities, and report these to the Project Engineer for inclusion on the monthly estimate and for reporting to the accounting system.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of job activities, quantities performed, and instructions for the owner and accidents.
  • Provide technical assistance with project scheduling, and prepare a 3-week look-ahead schedule.
  • Coordinate delivery of materials to ensure no delays in job progress.
  • Obtain local, state, and federal permits related to the construction activities.
  • Supervise and direct subcontractors and major suppliers.
  • Approve timesheets for accuracy and proper allocation.
  • Analyze potential job hazards and prepare plans to eliminate risks.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the supervisor.
  • Working knowledge of surveying techniques and equipment, assigned discipline design, and overall engineering standards is necessary.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and communicate effectively with others is essential.

Qualification Standards:

  • 2-4 years of construction engineering and/or surveying experience.
  • Four-year engineering (mechanical/civil) or construction management degree, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must be willing to move/travel to projects.
  • Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol abuse policy.
  • Must be able to pass a physical examination, pre-employment if necessary, and as required by the company.
  • Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.).
  • Able to carry 50 lbs. of tools and/or materials. It is recommended to get assistance to lift items over 50 lbs. Check with your project supervisor or project safety director.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.).
  • Must be able to work while wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment when required.

  • Location: industrial construction sites and/or fabrication shop

    • Uneven ground level
    • Obstructed pathways
    • Work performed at low and/or high elevations
    • Work performed in confined areas
  • Climatic/Environmental Conditions at Job Site:
    • Predominantly outdoor climate
    • May be exposed to extreme hot or cold weather
    • Excessive humidity, rain, etc.
    • Various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc.
    • Potential exposure to chemical substances
