Job summary

Aalo Atomics, based in Austin, TX, is seeking an experienced Field Engineer to bridge Engineering and the field, directing equipment installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance at Aalo facilities and deployment sites.

This hands-on role requires strong problem solving, clear communication, and a willingness to travel to multiple project locations. A minimum of 10+ years in field engineering is required. Competitive compensation is offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent hands-on field/technical experience.
• 10+ years of field engineering, installation, commissioning, or hands-on hardware experience.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, GD&T callouts, weld symbols, schematics, and specs.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and sound engineering judgment for safe field execution.
• Basic familiarity with powered and manual tools.
• Strong ownership mindset and clear communication in a fast-paced environment.
• Air-travel-compliant form of ID and a valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and support installation, commissioning, testing, operation, maintenance, repair, and modification of mechanical equipment and systems.
• Review drawings, specifications, calculations, schematics, work instructions, and vendor docs before and during field execution.
• Translate design requirements into practical work plans, sequencing, tooling needs, and field instructions.
• Provide direct technical support to field personnel, vendors, and project teams during field activities.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment and installation issues in the field.
• Verify field conditions, collect measurements, document discrepancies, and communicate risks to design intent, safety, quality, and schedule.
• Support inspections, functional testing, diagnostics, turnover, and closeout activities; document results.
• Coordinate with design engineering, manufacturing, quality, licensing, construction, testing, and reactor operations.
• Develop and revise field procedures, work packages, lift plans, test plans, and as-built docs.
• Lead or support pre-job briefs, hazard reviews, readiness reviews, and post-job critiques.
• Provide technical direction to field personnel while respecting supervision and quality controls.
• Travel to facilities, vendor locations, construction sites, and test sites; on short notice as needed.
