Job summary

Hirani Engineering and Land Surveying, D.P.C. is seeking an experienced Field Engineer to support railroad construction projects on site in New York.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of railroad construction experience.
  • BS in Civil Engineering.
  • Ability to pass Safety Training.
  • Knowledge of ballast, ties, rail structure and construction methods.

Responsibilities

  • Support Project Manager and client management on site.
  • Review shop drawings and provide engineering support during construction.
  • Provide technical guidance to staff, contractors, and vendors.
  • Check designs and drawings.
  • Experience with rail outages and schedules.
  • Ensure contract compliance via daily inspections for rail construction.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports.
  • Monitor subcontractor and supplier usage for pre-approval before work starts.
  • Coordinate site activities with trades and facility personnel.
  • Monitor workforce and track progress against the work plan.
  • Complete punch lists and track completion.

Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Field Engineer with prior experience. The ideal candidate will support the engineering and construction teams by providing on-site technical expertise, ensuring compliance with project specifications, and coordinating field activities to meet safety, quality, and schedule requirements for Line Structure Project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide assistance to the Project Manager / Client Management team as directed
  • Review shop drawings and provide engineering support during construction
  • May be required to provide technical guidance and direction to support staff, contractors, and/or vendors
  • Check designs and drawings
  • Experience with Rail Outage and schedules
  • Overall contract compliance via daily inspections for all rail construction
  • Prepare daily inspection reports in accordance with the project's requirements
  • Monitoring of sub-contractor & supplier usage to ensure pre-approval before work starts
  • Assist the contractor(s) with the coordination of activities on the construction site with the other trades and the facility
  • Monitor workforce and performance against the work plan
  • Complete punch lists and track completion
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years minimum experience in Railroad construction experience
  • Knowledge of Ballast, Ties and Rail structure, bridge and facility construction methods, materials, standards, and specifications, with knowledge of all facets of construction and construction documents.
  • Knowledge of typical Structural Steel Repairs, experience in reviewing shop drawings
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
  • Ability to pass Safety Training
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal safety, environment guidelines and regulations.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills utilizing Windows / Outlook / Word / Excel and scheduling applications
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Valid driver’s license - Occasional travel within the region may be required.
  • Proven ability to adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
