Role Summary

The Field Engineer 2 supports construction activities for routine projects and ensures the planned work of the crew is performed efficiently and effectively. This position completes tasks personally and supervises a crew as a foreman, supporting JE Dunn's strategy, vision, and values.

Key Role Responsibilities – Core
  • Actively participates in all aspects of the project-specific safety plan and culture.
  • Learns and actively participates in all aspects of the company’s safety culture through commitment to an injury‑free environment.
  • Works with tools and executes self‑perform work while embedded as part of a crew of craftsmen.
  • Acquires knowledge about best‑practice standards and fundamentals for building and construction techniques through on‑the‑job training and regular work assignments.
  • Builds relationships and develops communication skills with tradespeople and project team members.
  • Develops understanding of various functions and support roles across the company and their contribution to project success.
  • Applies company standards for specific equipment use in building processes.
  • Collaborates with others and demonstrates teamwork.
  • Incorporates Lean practices into daily activities.
  • Participates in meetings such as weekly work plans as warranted by business needs and site practices.
Key Role Responsibilities – Additional Core
  • Plans, executes and reports self‑perform work.
  • Pre‑plans crew activities, fulfills daily task plan requirements, completes look‑ahead schedule, and provides updates to supervisor.
  • Creates and implements project safety plans, ensuring compliance through training, toolbox talks, and communication with safety representatives.
  • Helps control costs by seeking process improvements.
  • Ensures quality for assigned tasks by assisting with project quality assurance and control activities.
  • Assists with material and other cost (MOC) and equipment analysis.
  • Works on site with the superintendent to monitor crew size, self‑perform packaging, and collaborate with contractors.
  • Participates in punch lists, city inspections, safety reviews, quality reviews, and prepares necessary documentation.
  • Leads or participates in planning meetings such as weekly work plans and look‑aheads.
  • Acquires additional knowledge of company functions and support roles to coordinate project needs.
  • Leads Lean construction practices such as the last‑planner system.
  • Participates in planning sequencing and coordination of all crafts.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Perform work accurately, completely, and in a timely manner.

  • Understand crane flagging and rigging.
  • Know organizational structure and available resources.

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field (Preferred).
  • Participation in a federally required training or apprenticeship program, depending on location (Preferred).
  • Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
Experience
  • 2+ years construction experience (Required).
  • 0‑2 years construction supervision experience (Preferred).
